Ein schmerzlicher Verlust traf die Musikwelt im Jahre 1998: Die angesehene Wiener Pianistin und Klavierprofessorin Rosario Marciano verstarb nach schwerer Krankheit in ihrer Geburtsstadt Caracas (Venezuela). Ihr künstlerisches Wirken war geprägt vom Einsatz für zeitgenössische Musik und Komponistinnen aller Epochen ebenso wie für die Musik Franz Schuberts und ihrer Liebe für historische Tasteninstrumente.
Außer ihrer eigenen Karriere galt ihr selbstloses Engagement stets auch der Förderung von Freunden, Kollegen und Studierenden. Neben anderen kulturellen Ehrenämtern war sie Präsidentin der Vienna International Pianists. Zu ihrem Andenken veranstaltet diese Vereinigung den Internationalen Rosario-Marciano-Klavierwettbewerb.

Teilnahmeberechtigt sind Pianistinnen und Pianisten aller Nationalitäten folgender Geburtsjahrgänge: Gruppe I: 2000 und später; Gruppe II: 1994 und später; Gruppe III: 1982 und später. Eine Anmeldung in einer höheren Altersgruppe ist möglich, die Teilnahme ist jedoch auf nur eine Altersgruppe begrenzt. Erste Preisträgerinnen und Preisträger vergangener Rosario-Marciano-Wettbewerbe sind von einer erneuten Teilnahme in derselben Altersgruppe ausgeschlossen. Auswärtige Teilnehmer erhalten während ihrer Teilnahme (einen Tag vor ihrem ersten Wertungsspiel bis zu ihrem Ausscheiden) mindestens zwei Stunden (Gruppen II und III) bzw. eine Stunde (Gruppe I) kostenlose Übungsmöglichkeit pro Tag. Alle Wertungsdurchgänge werden auf einem Blüthner-Konzertflügel gespielt.
Gleichzeitig mit der Anmeldung ist die Anmeldegebühr auf das Konto der Vienna International Pianists, Nr. 12.023.172 bei der Raiffeisen-Landesbank Wien-Niederösterreich (BLZ 32000), mit dem Vermerk "Spesenfrei für den Empfänger" einzuzahlen (IBAN: AT95 3200 0000 1202 3172, BIC: RLNWATWW). Die Anmeldegebühr wird bei einer Absage seitens des Teilnehmers nicht zurückgezahlt. Alle Preisträgerinnen und Preisträger verpflichten sich zu einem unentgeltlichen Auftritt im Schlusskonzert am 9. August 2012. Aus Aufführungen sowie Ton- und Bildaufnahmen während des Wettbewerbs entstehen den Teilnehmenden keine Vergütungsansprüche.
Jurymitglieder werten ihre gegenwärtigen oder ehemaligen Schüler(innen) nicht. Sämtliche Werke außer dem Pflichtstück sind auswendig vorzutragen. Alle Repertoirevorschriften und Zeitlimits müssen unbedingt eingehalten werden! Nach Anmeldeschluss sind keine Programmänderungen mehr möglich. In 1998, the musical world suffered a bitter loss: After a severe illness, the renowned Viennese pianist and piano professor Rosario Marciano passed away in her birth city, Caracas, Venezuela. Her artistic work was marked by her enthusiasm for contemporary music and women composers as well as by her love of the music by Franz Schubert and of historic keyboard instruments.
Besides her own pianistic career, Rosario Marciano selflessly promoted friends, colleagues and students in their forthcoming. Next to other cultural posts of honour, she served as president to the Vienna International Pianists. In her memory, this association announces the International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition.

The competition is open to pianists from all nationalities, born in the following years: Group I: 2000 and later; group II: 1994 and later; group III: 1982 and later. Registration in a higher age group is possible, but each contestant can play in one age-group only. First prize winners of past Rosario Marciano competitions are exempt from another participation in the same age-group. For participants from outside of Vienna, there will be at least two hours (groups II and III) resp. one hour (group I) of free daily practicing from the day before their first performance until their elimination. All competition rounds will be played on a Blüthner concert grand piano.

Jury members will not evaluate their current or former students. All performances exempt the compulsory piece must be from memory. All requirements of repertoire and time limits must be obeyed! Alexander Jenner wurde 1929 in Wien geboren und studierte nach 1945
an der damaligen Staatsakademie bei Paul Weingarten, Bruno Seidlhofer
und Richard Hauser. In den Fünfziger Jahren gewann er mehrere
erste und zweite Preise bei internationalen Pianistenwettbewerben.
Heute blickt auf eine jahrzehntelange weltweite Konzerttätigkeit
zurück. In Klavierabenden, als Solist mit sehr vielen Orchestern
und Dirigenten und als Kammermusikpartner spielte er in Wien und
in den wichtigsten Musikzentren ein weitgespanntes Repertoire. Seit
1970 war Alexander Jenner Professor an seiner ehemaligen Ausbildungsstätte,
nunmehr "Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst
in Wien". Auch nach seiner Emeritierung wirkt er häufig
als Juror internationaler Wettbewerbe und als Leiter von Meisterkursen
in aller Welt. Alexander Jenner war viele Jahre lang Präsident
der Wiener Beethoven-Gesellschaft. Er gilt heute als Exponent der
berühmten Wiener Klaviertradition. zurück
Alexander Jenner was born in Vienna in 1929. After
1945, he studied at the former Academy of Music with Paul Weingarten,
Bruno Seidlhofer and Richard Hauser. In the fifties, he won several
first prizes at international piano competitions. Over decades,
he has been concertizing worldwide with a widespread repertoire.
He performed in Vienna and in the most important musical centers
as a soloist, with numerous acclaimed orchestras and conductors
and as a chamber musician. Since 1970, Alexander Jenner has been
professor at the institute of his former studies, now "University
of Music and Performing Arts" in Vienna. Since his retirement,
he is frequently acting as a jury member at international competitions
and as a master-class teacher all over the world. Alexander Jenner
was president of the Vienna Beethoven Society for many years. Today
he is considered being the exponent of the famous Viennese tradition
of piano-playing. back

Der Klaviervirtuose ist Spezialist in der Interpretation russischer Klaviermusik. Als gefragter Pädagoge leitet er eine Klavierklasse an der Universität der Künste in Osaka/Japan.
Der erfolgreiche Pianist wurde in Japan geboren. Er studierte Klavier an der Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst „Mozarteum“ in Salzburg, setzte sein Studium am Moskauer Tschaikowsky-Konservatorium fort und absolvierte außerdem an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. Der Klaviervirtuose ist Preisträger internationaler Wettbewerbe wie „Citta di Senigallia“, „F. Busoni“ (Bozen) und „Marguerite Long“ (Paris). Mehr als 50 Solokonzerte pro Jahr sowie zahlreiche CD-Produktionen (u. a. Skrjabin und Mussorgsky) dokumentieren das künstlerische Schaffen Masahi Katayamas. Neben seiner pianistischen Tätigkeit ist Masahi Katayama auch ein gefragter Pädagoge. Zunächst Assistent des berühmten Pianisten Andrei Gavrilov an der Musikhochschule Hannover, leitet Masahi Katayama heute eine Klavierklasse an der Universität der Künste in Osaka/Japan. Außerdem wird er häufig zu Meisterkursen im In-und Ausland eingeladen zurück
The virtuoso pianist is an expert in Russian piano music interpretation. As a sought-after pedagogue he is piano professor at the University of Arts in Osaka/Japan.
This successful pianist was born in Japan. He studied piano performance at the University of Music “Mozarteum” in Salzburg. He continued his studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and graduated at the University of Music and Drama in Hannover/Germany. The virtuoso pianist is prize winner of several international competitions such as „Citta di Senigallia“, „F. Busoni“ (Bolzano) und „Marguerite Long“ (Paris). Lewis’ vielfältige Karriere umfasst Tätigkeiten
als Konzertpianistin, Musikjournalistin und Konzertagentin. Seit
ihrem Debüt mit dem San Francisco Symphony Orchester im Alter
von 10 Jahren mit Haydns D-Dur-Konzert ist sie in zahlreichen Konzerten
als Solistin und Kammermusikerin in Kalifornien und New York aufgetreten.
Musikjournalistisch ist Leonne Lewis als beratende Herausgeberin
der Zeitschrift „Clavier“, als Autorin in „Strings“,
„Strad“ und „Wiener Zeitung“ tätig.
Sie hält Vorträge an Universitäten und bei Musikfestivals
und der Music Teachers Association of California, deren Präsidentin
sie eine Zeitlang war. Themen sind das Zeitalter der Romantik, Beethoven
und seine Welt u.a. Leonne Lewis absolvierte ihr Klavier-Konzertfachstudium
an der University of Southern California und der California State

Leonne Lewis has a varied career as a pianist,
music journalist and concert manager. Since playing the Haydn D
Major concerto with the San Francisco Symphony at age 10, she has
performed frequently as soloist and chamber musician throughout
California and New York. Leonne's accomplishments as music journalist
include Consulting Editor of Clavier magazine and contributor to
Strings, Strad and the Wiener Zeitung newspaper of Vienna, Austria.
She gives lectures at universities and music festivals and the Music
Teachers' Association of California (where she was past president)
on the romantic era, Beethoven and His World, and other musical
subjects. Leonne received her bachelor and master of arts degrees
in piano performance from the University of Southern California

Carol
Morgan wurde in England geboren. Nach dem Studium am Royal College
of Music in London folgte ein längerer Aufenthalt in Deutschland,
wo sie unter anderem bei Alfons Kontarsky studierte. Neben dem klassisch-romantischen
Repertoire ist sie seit vielen Jahren eine herausragende Interpretin
zeitgenössischer Musik, sowohl solistisch als auch in den Bereichen
Lied- und Kammermusik. Nach langjähriger Erfahrung in mehreren
Ensembles tritt sie zunehmend mit spannenden Programmen auf, in
denen sie traditionelles Repertoire mit Werken des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts
kombiniert. Ihre Interpretationen sind gekennzeichnet von unbestechlicher
Texttreue und treffsicherem Gespür für die Verschiedenheit
der unterschiedlichen Kompositionsstile. zurück
Carol Morgan was born in England. After her studies at the Royal
College of Music in London she lived in Germany for some time, where
she studied, among others, with Alfons Kontarsky. Apart from the
classical-romantic repertoire, she has been for many years among
the leading interpreters for the music by contemporary composers,
both for solo piano as also for song and chamber music. After playing
for a long time in various ensembles she now concentrates on exciting
programmes which combine the traditional repertoire with the music
of the 20th and 21st century. Her interpretations are characterized
of incorruptible text loyalty and accurate feeling for the difference

Stephan Möllers internationaler
Ruf als Pianist gründet sich auf seinen Preis beim Internationalen
Beethoven-Klavierwettbewerb Wien 1985. Seitdem führt in eine
rege Konzerttätigkeit durch ganz Europa, die USA, Japan und
China. Neben dem allgemeinen Repertoire sind seine besonderen Schwerpunkte
die Klavierwerke der Wiener Klassik, insbesondere von Ludwig van
Beethoven, sowie Transkriptionen Franz Liszts über Wagner-Opern
und neue Kompositionen für den Bösendorfer-Computerflügel.
Stephan Möller wurde 1955 in Hamburg geboren und absolvierte
seine Ausbildung als Pianist und Dirigent am Mozarteum in Salzburg.
Von 1983-89 war er künstlerischer Mitarbeiter Herbert von Karajans
bei den Salzburger Festspielen. Seit 1990 lehrt Stephan Möller
an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in
Wien. Er wird häufig zu Meisterkursen und Vorträgen im
In- und Ausland eingeladen. 1999 gründete er in Wien die "VIP
Academy", ein erfolgreiches Festival für junge Pianisten.

Stephan Möller
first gained prominence as a prizewinner at the 1985 International
Beethoven Competition in Vienna. Since then his busy concert schedule
has taken him to Japan, China, North and South America as well as
all over Europe. Performing all the standard repertoire, Stephan
Möller has concentrated especially on the interpretation of
the Viennese Classics, in particular Beethoven, as well as on Franz
Liszt's paraphrases of Wagner opera scenes and new compositions
for the computer-assisted Bösendorfer concert grand piano.
Stephan Möller was born in Hamburg and studied piano and conducting
at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. From 1983 to 1989, he worked at the
Salzburg Festival with Herbert von Karajan and other world-renowned
conductors. Since 1990, he holds a teaching position at the University
for Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He is frequently invited to
hold masterclasses and lectures. 1999 he founded the "VIP Academy",
a successful summer festival for young pianists in Vienna. He is

Spanien, Italien, Russland, Kasachstan, Japan und die USA, darunter
ihr erfolgreiches Debüt 1987 in der New Yorker Carnegie Hall.
Eugenie Russo wirkte in der CBS-Fernsehserie „Bernstein-Beethoven“
mit und veröffentlichte zahlreiche CDs mit Werken amerikanischer
Komponisten wie Gershwin und Copland, aber auch der Wiener Schule
und zeitgenössischer Musik. Sie ist Artist-in-Residence an
mehreren amerikanischen Musikhochschulen und leitet eine Klavierklasse
am Josef-Matthias-Hauer-Konservatorium in Wiener Neustadt. zurück
